Welcome to the Handbasket!
Aaack! 4 more years of Tyrany.
One of the suprising elements of the vote, to me, was the zeal with which rural voters supported bush. Not only did they show up in huge numbers, they also were overwhelming in their support for GWB. in many of the rural counties ohio, bush support was pegged between 75-95%.
Another huge disappointment was the youth vote. NPR claimed that only 1 of 10 elligible voters age 18-20 voted. 10% of 17 (rough estimate from census data) million people is an abysmal 1.7 million votes. Young america did not speak out this election. If only 30% of these youths had voted, that would be an extra 3.4 million votes! This might have proved crucial in tight races, and might have made teh popular vote much closer.
But nooooo.... now we have a republican mandate. Kiss your civil liberties goodbye. Watch as we piss away billions of dollars. And more importantly, keep a close eye on the level of interaction between govement and corporate influence. The legislature is dead, we have an all powerfull executive uncheckedby congress. Hopefully, someone will cure cancer, so the supreme court doesn't get replaced by robots. In essence, I fear for the very liberty that my country was designed to protect.
What would Ben Franklin do? Probably go fly a kite.
